It has been an amazing journey and interesting learning for the tamariki. We have been really interested in other living things around us with our interest going from insects to animals and to dinosaurs. Their questions have been so interesting and engaging, and that has led our teaching.

We have also been well supported by our whanau when they bring in items to for our insect arts and crafts, and even some monarch butterfly cocoons! We watched and learnt about the life cycle of the butterfly while also satisfying our curiosity about the insects that live around us and the dinosaurs that lived before us.

Curiosity, independence, and problem solving, just to name a few things developing amidst all this excitement. We believe that every child is competent and confident and the learning and lovely conversations we have are evident of this. The tamariki have control of their own learning so that we as teachers, can guide and learn alongside them.

I wonder where we will go from here. It can be about plants, trains, and even recycling, that is the beauty of learning; our curiosity leads us to many places of interest. To have that care and empathy for all the things around us and to be learn confidently alongside one another is what we value at Beststart Ascot Ave: Everyday heroes, spreading care and aroha!
