Intentional Teaching moments
At BestStart Whangaparaoa, we have been busy planning and developing ideas for our Be School Ready Programme in the preschool room for the past few months. Our tamariki have been enjoying participating in small group time throughout the day where kaiako plan for learning experiences that support tamariki transitioning to school. We also have different mat-times throughout the day with various learning opportunities during those mat-times, such as learning about weather, days of the week, letter and name recognition, numeracy learning, practicing new languages as well as group games - our tamariki are big fans of those games! Our tamariki also love using card and board games for their learning to follow instructions, as well as a way to practice their Manaakitanga as they help each other through the games.
There are many intentional teaching moments happening every day, our kaiako have been looking at the different teaching strategies to interweave the learning areas of the school curriculum with Te Whariki, and our tamariki are loving learning about the school curriculum areas such as mathematics, literacy, arts, science, technology, social sciences and physical education through fun learning experiences. Our tamariki are doing an amazing job at taking responsibility for themselves with kaiako encouragement such as looking after their belongings. We look forward to continuing to strengthen our Be School Ready Programme more once all our tamariki return to the centre after lockdown.
