To extend the learning for our preschool children and further develop a deeper connection with the natural world, we have created a programme called “kaupapa taiao – our nature programme”. Through this programme we take a group of 8 children on a weekly excursion to the bush next to Marist Rugby Club – a bush only a 15 min walk from the centre. 
We had our first walk this week for the year and there has been lots of learning opportunities for the children through this exciting adventure: 
• Climbing trees (building onto children’s gross motor skills, problem solving, exploring)
• Building relationship with the local community  
• Exploring Papatuanku (natural world)
• Extending their creativity skills and using their imagination to engage in play 
• Manaakitanga (taking care of ourselves and peers and the environment around us)
