Today was our first day so we went through all the rules and safety features from walking to and from the bush, keeping ourselves safe on the road and keeping our selves safe when we are at the bush.

Sylas, Mila, Keira, Mateus, Ariki and Marley demonstrated some great listening skills and we had lots of korero around keeping our selves safe.

At the bush we had lots of learning for our tamariki already. We had lots of discussion around caring and looking after our environments. The children spotted lots of rubbish at the bush and they picked up the rubbish and disposed them in the bins. They demonstrated great team work as they worked together collecting the rubbish and listening and responding to each other positively.

The children helped Ryo create  a tent using tarp and other natural resources from the bush. They were able to use imagination and extend onto their creativity skills of using natural resources. The children created a fire using the sticks, gathered seats to sit under the tent and pretend toasted marshmallows.

We had a very successful first week at the bush and we looking forward to the next one. We will be planning with the children about ideas and what they would like to investigate and explore on our next trip.

As the current planning project is based around "Kai", we will build onto the children's interest in marshmallows and perhaps provide them with  the opportunity to make their real toasted marshmallows at the centre.
