Since returning from lockdown the children and families at Richmond Kindy have been learning about and sharing their knowledge of Matariki. Using traditional harekeke and other resources, children developed their weaving skills working with parent Shaynah (Ngati Tuwharetoa) and teacher Leica to develop some beautiful individual and group project kites. Children harvested food from our garden (Rongo) and this food along with more donated by our families was used to prepare and cook soup and hangi for our annual Matariki celebration dinner. Stars were also a huge focus as children explored making stars using art and craft materials and decorating star biscuits to share with family and friends.
