At BestStart Hokowhitu we have been getting out and about in our community using the most excellent BestStart van this week. Supporting a strong interest in exploring our living world, we decided we would set up a fish tank in Kereru, our preschool room. This inquiry led us to arranging an excursion to Wet Pets, a local pet shop. Our akoria were delighted to visit pigs, rabbits, cats. dogs, birds and of course fish! It was great to watch our children confidently interact with the animals and the people in a friendly and responsible manner. We are so grateful for the opportunity to encourage empathy and tikanga around taking care of living creatures. At our centre we have worked hard to entwine the concept of being a kaitiaki/guardian to our living world in all aspects of our work and play. So rewarding to see our tamariki living and breathing our vision.
