This morning in the Infant room we incorporated our names, letters and shapes into some messy play fun! The tamariki all showed confidence with spreading the flour around with their hands and fingers and so many delightful grins, giggles and expressions were vocalised and displayed. Our Kaiako Tracey demonstrated how to draw circles in the flour and then wrote everyone’s names carefully around the table. We were impressed with the focus and interest everyone showed and the excitement displayed over a new experience and working alongside each other. Sensory activities offer opportunities for our tamariki to develop fine motor skills and control, hand-eye co ordination, concentration and further enhance our imaginations. Numbers, letters and shapes are all around us so exposing our young tamariki to these will only give familiarity for future skills of reading and writing.
