Luna New Year at BestStart Pyes Pa
At BestStart Pyes Pa we recognise and celebrate the cultural values, beliefs and experiences of our children, giving them a strong sense of pride in who they are and where they come from.
Having an opportunity to explore a range of different cultures also has many strong benefits, helping our children to better understand the world around them, nurturing their open-mindedness and developing compassion for others. It lessens prejudice, providing opportunities to develop an understanding and respect for the difference of others whilst also supporting the children in seeing how different cultures may approach things in different ways, whilst also understanding that we often share the same basic values and desires.
This week was full of amazing learning opportunities as we discovered all about Luna New Year! We begun the week with a big 'Spring clean' honoring the Chinese tradition of 'cleaning away bad luck or bad fortune. The children took ownership and pride in their environment, working together collaboratively as a team to ensure that our beautiful environment was clean and shiny.
During the week there were a range of exciting cultural experiences from Chinese writing, origami, puppet making to Chinese art, dance and songs. We even had a delicious feast with dumplings, noodles and fried rice.
But the absolute highlight of our week was the Dragon dance! With each child playing a supporting role, our amazing dragon danced around the centre, moving to the drums as he chased the Pearl of Wisdom.
A big 'Thank You' to our amazing families who took the time to share their culture with us, to nurture and grow our knowledge and for all of their wonderful support on our beautiful Luna New Year celebrations!
