Today in the Nursey we made star/whetu shaped cookies for are families/whanau to enjoy at our Matariki whanau event. We had a Matariki Art exhibit to showcase all the lovely artwork our tamariki in the nursey have done to celebrate Matariki. During this activity, we had some help from some of the preschool children. This was a great way for the older tamariki to practice their leadership as they helped to guide and support the younger children/tamariki and was a great way for the tamariki to experience and develop tuakana-teina relationships. Together the tamariki poured the different ingredients into the big bowl and mix/whakaranu them all together. Once the cookie batter was all mixed/whakaranu, we rolled out our dough and used a star/whetu cookie cutter to cut them out and then they were all ready to cook. The following day, the tamariki got to ice the cookies with red/whero icing and top them off with sprinkles. The tamariki loved getting involved in this activity and helping create some yummy cookies for all their whanau to enjoy at our whanau event. He reka!
