Matariki was was celebrated in the centre with great passion and was attended by our whanau and friends. This is one of our favourite night event where we invite parents to celebrate this event with food and music. There were activities for our whanau to take part in, and yummy kai.  Three varieties of soup – pumpkin, chunky vege and soy soup with vege’s, scones, bread and cake.  The families had a great time flax weaving, face painting – moko and making poi.  Our photo booth was very popular.

Promoting bicultural practice has been always encouraged in the centre and some of the experiences we provide children are:  singing  karakia before meal time, waiata, poi making, dance and haka; tamariki learn to count from one to ten in te reo, identify colours in te reo as well as the body parts. Kaiako (teachers) say Te reo phrase while they work with children and provide an awesome opportunities for making bicultural practice visible at BestStart Great North.
