Matariki Celebration with Delta Avenue
At the end of June, we celebrated Matariki.
We initiated many activities with our tamariki to help them to understand the meaning of the celebration and experience the Maori Culture.
Our whanau contributed the vegetables for soup which tamariki helped prepare. In keeping with our Vision of 'Kindness makes a difference', our beautiful Kaiako Rosina brought in all the Kumara for the soup.
In our Ruma Pepe Room, tamariki got involved in painting stars painting as kaiako had a korero about colours and shapes.
In Tirotiro Room, we did Matariki Dance with our tamariki. We also made the Kites to display around our room.
In our Preschool, many legends and stories were being told. After reading the books, tamariki had many questions. We explored the questions together and found the answers. The children have a basic understanding of what happened in the legends. Our preschool children also did an outstanding dancing performance alongside Matariki songs.
