TopKids George – This year is to mark 21 years for BestStart & to begin with our Matariki celebrations, Our tamariki planted harakeke plant which was gifted to each of the BestStart centres. Our tamariki have significantly been exposed to various activities such as listening to Māori myths and legends, drawing stars, cooking & waiata. The centre also invited all our parents & whānau to enjoy hangi on this special day.
Matariki is a celebration of culture, language, spirit and people. Wishing to embrace Matariki with our whānau and local community, we welcomed in the Māori New Year with a blessing for our centre and those we welcome into our home away from home.

Special thanks to our Kaumatua, Reverend Deacon David Hotere, who was accompanied by his daughter Waimihi Hotere for their beautiful blessing and waiata. We’ve captured a snippet to share, listen to the passion and feel the wairua behind this amazing gesture.
We would also like to show our appreciation for our wonderful whānau, Olivia Robinson, her mum Jo Falconer, David’s wife Kahu Hotere and their amazing tamariki. With their support our Matariki celebrations began strong as we spent time with and showed our gratitude for those important to us and our tamariki.
