This month we have been celebrating the fun Christmas season is so many ways within our centre and with our community.

We have close ties to Gilberthorpe Primary School across the road. The school brought their New Entrants and Year 1 classes over to visit us and sing us some Christmas carols. It was so wonderful to see so many of our former tamariki who have grown up and gone off to school coming back to us for a visit. Of course, we returned the favour with singing some of the songs we have been practicing back to them and treating them to our well-loved and practiced haka. We are always so proud of the way our tamariki grow in confidence to sing together in front of an audience.

This small concert was of course just a rehearsal for the big show...our annual Christmas Children's Party during which we perform songs for our families and whanau before we hit party mode! We sing in te reo Maori, sign language too, covering all of New Zealand's official languages and embracing the diverse cultures of our centre.

Our community is really important to us here at BestStart Buchanans Road, so it was important to us to continue our tradition of having a 'giving tree' where people can donate gifts for children in our community who may otherwise go without. This year we donated these to our local Hornby Salvation Army who we have close ties with. We are always humbled by the giving and generous nature of our families (and staff) for this cause.

It has been a fun-filled month of all things creative, musical, caring and fun here at BestStart Buchanans Road!
