Today Nikki our kaiako (teacher) introduced nga tamariki (the children) to a fun messy play experience using coloured shaving foam. Nga tamariki each took turns mixing the colours around the foam and then being confident to want to explore their sense of touch some even mentioning it felt squishy in their hands. It didn't take long for all tamariki to fully emerge their hands and arms into the foam giggling and laughing as they did. Nikki was able to discuss with nga tamariki what they could feel when they touched the foam, what could they see and smell? Nikki used teaching strategies such as open-ended questioning and role modelling to help nga tamariki extend on their learning.

Messy play is a vital part of learning and we at BestStart Parklands value it as one of our 16 important areas of play.
