We started out the month with the end of the school holidays for term 3, which saw the children (and teachers) take part in our exclusive holiday program! Some of our daily events included a Disco Dance Party, Wheels Day, a Teddy Bear's Picnic, Superhero Day and of course, the favourite, Pyjama Day!  Here at Kauri Flats we believe it is so important to keep our children engaged and excited about coming to the centre during the school holidays, and we strive to make this a special time for them too.

On the 16th of October our centre celebrated and embraced International Pink Shirt Day!  In Aotearoa, Pink Shirt Day works to create schools, workplaces, communities and whānau where everyone feels safe, valued and respected. Here at Kauri Flats we take pride in our centre diversity in many ways, and endeavor to consistently celebrate each and every culture across our service. Te Whāriki suggests the importance of an environment where children are encouraged to learn with and alongside others. This develops skills for friendship such as turn taking, problem solving and thinking about the other person's feelings. It is our duty as educators to teach children about their own and other cultures, as well as supporting children to learn with and alongside others regardless of the different ages and stages of all our tamariki. We are such a close knit whanau here, and we are so proud of this!  pinkshirtdaynz isn’t just about wearing pink - it’s about having hard kōrero, taking real steps to increase inclusion, celebrate diversity and make sure no one ever has to stand alone. Our children and their families went above and beyond to dress up, speak up and celebrate everyone in our community!

Towards the end of the month, we celebrated in a way non other than another dress up day for Halloween! The teachers did a wonderful job decorating our centre to create a spooky yet fun environment for the children to explore on the 30th. We were delighted to see everyone dress up in their favourite costumes (spooky or not) to enjoy a day filled with fun activities all around.

We would also like to give a massive shout out to the lovely Jude Bishop, who worked closely with out centre during October to deliver a fantastic program around keeping our children safe in many ways. Jude visited the pre-school children every week and the content of her course was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone! Thanks, Jude.
