The children at BestStart Havelock North were very excited to be going for a walk to the Green Door Plant Centre, as we put on the BestStart vests and set off down Havelock Road. We were on a mission to choose vegetable seedlings to plant in our new raised gardens at the front of our centre. We looked at all the different colours of the autumn leaves on the way and it was really fun when a big truck went by and caused all the leaves to swirl up around us.

When we arrived at the plant shop we went straight to the edible garden section and the decision making began. There were so many choices! Luckily we had a list to make it easier and soon found what we needed; cauliflower, purple broccoli, silverbeet, spinach,  kale and brussel sprouts. The children helped to put the trays on to the trolley and we had a look around at all the other cool plants, trees and herbs, before having a quick drink of water in the cafe. We needed some seeds too so chose parsnips and baby beetroot. Then it was time to make our way back to BestStart, with a little leaf throwing on the way.

What a great excursion, it's so nice to get out and about in our local community, meet new people and have new experiences. We had lots of news to share with our friends and teachers when we got back, and we look forward to planting up our new gardens and watching our vegetables grow.
