As a part of our interest in looking after ourselves, others and our environment at BestStart North Road, the topic of germs came up at mat time. Teachers answered all the questions our tamariki had about germs and this led into an investigation about what they look like and how germs spread. To extend the ideas and theories the children wanted to share this information with the other rooms, so a small drama production came about!

Our tamariki had a lot of fun painting and deciding what they would like their costumes to look like. There were different roles in the drama such as germs, a hand basin, soaps and hand-washers. Liam introduced and welcomed the show before the germs entered onto the stage to dance to the song I love to boogie. The hand washers then played their role and the drama finished up with all characters dancing to the I love to boogie song. Liam thanked the Paihamu and Tuatara room for coming along. A wee gift was handed out by Madison to the Paihamu room (a cake of soap) to take home as a reminder for them to wash their hands.

What a great way to learn, develop confidence, be creative and expressive, group work, music, dance and drama by having fun!
