Our inter-generational playgroup
BestStart Dixon Heights embarked on our first inter-generational playgroup at Somerset Retirement Village. This is something we have been really excited to be a part of as it links to our centre vision in a unique and special way. Our vision 'Nurture through nature' encompasses Te taiao (the natural environment) and all the living things within it. It also teaches us to be kaitiaki or gaurdians of Aotearoa through sustainable living and protection of our natural resources.
Another aspect of our vision is linked to human nature and what it is to be human. This includes the process of being born, growing, developing, and aging. The inter-generational playgroup at Sommerset retirement village was a great opportunity to engage in play on a multi-generational level. There were some amazing interactions during our time there and I look forward to developing our relationship with them further as we continue to visit on a fortnightly basis.
