This month, we’ve been focusing on our indoor space and looking at ways to create an environment for our children to explore. The places with the most changes were the kitchen area and the music corner. Our kitchen area has a little table with chairs and a new kitchen set for children to play. We also put some posters on the wall for children to learn about ingredients. These changes have caught the attention of our children and helped to maintain their interest. When children are pretending to be anything they know and have observed in their daily lives, this is what we call dramatic play. Kitchen role play gives children the opportunity to develop their language and communication skills. Also, this encourages our children to engage in play with other children which enhances their social development.

Our music corner has more instruments for our children to explore. We displayed a suitcase to put all our instruments in and decorated with the actual music sheets and notes. Our children love touching and making noises with a variety of wooden musical instruments. Children will develop gross motor skills as they bang on a drum and shake maracas and tambourine while strengthening fine motor skills as they hold a drumstick and tap each finger on the Xylophone.

It was great to see our children exploring a new environment. We will continue to focus on our environment to create a positive, caring and enriching space which will stimulate our children’s learning and encourage their physical, cognitive, emotional and social development.
