Our little green visitor
At BestStart Havelock North we have been focused on “Nurtured by Nature” and we were lucky to have a little green visitor come to stay.
Our new friend was rescued after it got stuck taking a dip in a swimming pool, and was brought into the centre by Vicki. The children were intrigued watching the frog, getting up close and observing it's every move.
The children are researching the life cycle of frogs, learning about what they eat, and where they live. Children loved finding books about frogs among our own centre library and welcomed stories to be read during our shared time.
We had the frog at the centre for a week and the children loved looking after it and searching for food. We found slaters, flies and worms. Some children even brought in moths from home.
It was such a fun week nurturing our little green visitor and the children really embraced this moment of learning. We talked about how it was good to release the frog back into its natural environment at the end of the week. Vicki took the frog to her farm and released it into the dam.
