Our Matariki celebration
Our centre had a wonderful time learning about and celebrating Matariki. Tamariki listened to stories and sang waiata. Children were invited to bring a vegetable to display on our harvest table. The children prepared these vegetables with Kaiako and added them to soups and roasts. They also helped to make bread.
Kaiako provided a range of learning experiences based on whetu (the stars).
Finally, we celebrated Matariki with a huge family feast including a delicious hangi prepared by one of our Mums. The children sang the songs that they had practised and we spent time outside, looking at the stars with our families. It was a wonderful evening!
