Matariki 2019 was celebrated at BestStart Raureka with an evening event that consisted of a shared kai, poi making, colouring, dancing, singing and roasting marshmallows over a fire.

It is always lovely to be able to spend time with our whānau and share a kai. We had a beautiful selection of food that was supplied by whānau. Children also helped prepare soup and homemade buns to share.

Connie and Annika, along with the help of Gyneva  and her whānau, had a poi making session. This was a wonderful opportunity to learn how to make poi and from this we were able to replenish our poi kete for our tamariki.

Children had been practicing their Matariki Macarena throughout the month and did a fantastic job at performing this on the evening for their whānau. We even got a few parents up to have a go. Awesome work!!

To conclude our evening, children and whānau had the opportunity to roast marshmallows over a carefully planned fire pit. Children used sticks and the LARGEST Marshmallows that we could find to make delicious, gooey balls of stickiness.

A HUGE thank you to everyone that was able to come and celebrate with us
