"Meditation is the process of turning inward, calming the mind and practicing presence."

In the Pēpē Room, we've created a quiet space for the tamariki to practice mindfulness meditation. Supporting children with mindfulness meditation is important for children to engage in throughout their busy days as it affects different parts of their brain, including the parietal lobe. Through meditation activity in the parietal lobe slows down and allows children to process information more clearly.

Tamariki choose to use the quiet space when they feel they need to with and without the support of their Kaiako role modelling how to utilise the quiet space. At times the Kaiako encourage the tamariki to join them in the quiet space as a way of calming their bodies and their minds.

In our quiet space, your tamariki can experience a space where they can lay down and cuddle the cushions. Where they can look up at the ivy vines, delicate flowing fabric and fairy lights. Where they can listen to the sounds of nature to ease their minds.

Sound good?
