On Wednesday this week we were extremely lucky to have the Redwood Fire Station bring in their fire truck for the tamariki. As the fire truck arrived everyone ran up to the window with excitement and watched the fire truck reverse. We were all  so excited after patiently waiting all morning for the big arrival. The men walked inside and everyone sat down on the carpet with their listening ears switched on. One of the fireman step by step guided the children how they put uniform that they use when they go to fires and we were told what each part of the uniform was and how it can be used.

When the firemen were finished modelling their uniform the children were allowed to walk up and explore the uniform by touching and having a feel of it. Once we were finished we had a little talk about what to do if we find matches or a lighter, 'you give it to mum, dad or any adult'. After sitting down and talking with the firemen in groups of 8 we took the tamariki outside to individually have turns at squirting the hose.

Finally as the firetruck left we were able to stand on the ramp and at the window inside as they lastly put their sirens on and beeped their horn to say goodbye. This was such an incredible experience, the tamariki absolutely loved the experience and everyone did so well with following instructions and listening. To kindly thank the Fire Station we all wrote a card to post in the mail with our comments on how our experience was. Some children said "I want to become a fireman!" and "I really loved the hose!". We hope they can come back to visit us again soon!
