As part of our “Saving the Planet” project at BestStart Meadowbank, we decided to have a “Wearable Arts Day”. Our tamariki (children) were all eager to participate and came up with various ideas to design and make their own costumes. With assistance from our kaiako (teachers), tamariki followed the traditional technology processes to produce their own outfits. From the initial design to the selection of material, from making the costumes to trial and error, tamariki worked very hard getting ready for the fashion show. They even rehearsed the catwalk beforehand. When the big day finally came, all the boys and girls dressed up proudly, walked and posed professionally on the runway. The big rounds of applause from the audience signified the magnificence of the performance.
