Pakiwaitara (core stories) is the focus of our current Project Planning.  Children have been learning about our local stories, including, The Battle of the Mountains (Tongariro, Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe), Horomatangi (the taniwha) in Lake Taupo that protects the Island Motutaiko as well as others including the famously renown Maui stories and The Bird Woman. Matariki has also been a focus of creativity, making stars, as we celebrated the Maori New Year and learning about Ranginui - things in the sky. Tamariki have been very busy creating paper mache maunga and masks, stars, kites, te ra (the sun), robots/astronauts, sky rockets and are learning about the planets.  Waiata and kapa haka to support and consolidate this learning has also been a focus.
