Community Kindy St Leonards – Our Centre manager recently went to BestStarts leadership conference and came back with a awesome gift for the centre, a harakeke plant.

We decided we would celebrate BestStarts 21st birthday with the planting of the harakeke and have a picnic afternoon tea with the children and whanau in our nature inspired garden.

The children gathered on the path to take part in this special planting ceremony, before we planted the harakeke, we said a karakia whakatauki to bless the plant and to give thanks to Tane-mahuta Papatuanuku.

After our karakia, a hole was dug and the plant was carefully placed in the ground, to grow tall as a part of our garden, before going off to explore the children gathered to wash their hands in water, returning to a state of noa.

We then sat down all together and got to enjoy a beautiful afternoon tea with our children and families in the gorgeous sunny Hawkesbay.

It was a fantastic afternoon to celebrate BestStarts 21st birthday, we look forward to many more to come!
