The preschool kaiako and tamariki at BestStart South Rd went on an excursion to work in the garden area behind the toddlers and infants area called the community garden. We cleaned up the raised beds and some of the stony area ready to plant them out.

We are also hoping to create some more raised garden beds ready for next summer and 3 compost bins so we can start recycling more food scraps to turn into compost for our gardens.

Our tamariki had so much fun helping to clean up these areas while learning about taking care of the living creatures that had made their homes among the overgrown plants etc. We are planning on returning regularly to care for the area and plant fruit and vegetables plants while teaching our tamariki many valuable skills around gardening and caring for Papa-tū-ā-nuku (Mother Earth)
