In the Rimu Room at BestStart Omahu, the tamariki have been enjoying our new resources including the magnetic shapes and dinosaurs. Kaiako have been amazed by the wonderful engagements occurring, with children building towers almost as tall as themselves, which requires problem-solving skills along with determination and perseverance when working with magnetics. With the addition of the new dinosaurs, we have been enjoying many dinosaur related conversations and learnings with Kaiako Shona implementing books, laminated fact sheets and cue cards.  Over the past month, Kaiako Chelsea has been encouraging the children to care for their living world – papatuanuku. Planting vegetables, removing weeds, and mixing up special mixtures in the blender for our worm farm – the children show great interest and love in being a kaitiakitanga of our environment!

Within the Pohutukawa Room, tamariki have been engaged in exploring the two prominent interests within the room – Science and Art. Kaiako Lauren has been merging the two together, to create a very cool colourful eruption paint experience! Alongside this, we have been engaged in the beginnings of Matariki as the children partake in colourings tars which are now beautifully displayed within Pohutukawa. Over the next few weeks, we will be enjoying learning more about Matariki and the significant meaning to us in New Zealand.
