This year for Father’s Day we thought we would create something more Reggio inspired, using more natural resources. Our tamariki have really been enjoying using our carpentry area this month and so we combined the two concepts to create our very own picture frames. Ngā tamariki did all of the work themselves; some of our whānau brought in driftwood from the beach to use and so they cut this up using the saws in the carpentry area. They drew their own pictures of their Dad/Grandad or Uncle and then wrote the name “Dad” underneath. Ngā tamariki then glued this onto cardboard using the hot glue gun before placing and gluing the chopped up pieces of wood around their picture to create their beautiful frames. What a work of art tamariki! Tau ke! So much learning can be had by getting hands-on with different tools and crafts. Through this experience we were learning how to handle and use tools safely, developing our strength, coordination and control as well as our fine motor skills through our drawing and writing, not to mention developing some new ways of being creative. Ka pai tō mahi tamariki.
