Rolleston Be School Ready Evening
At BestStart Rolleston, we hold regular parent information evenings and last night we held a 'Be School Ready' evening for our whanau. The preschool team gave a presentation about how to ensure a smooth transition to school and explained BestStart Rolleston's 'Be School Ready Programme' that we use to support children in their preparation for school. We also had a New Entrant teacher from a local school as a guest speaker who explained what children should be able to do when they first start school.
The teachers discussed the following key points:
–What is most important for our tamariki turning 5?
–How can preschools connect with local schools?
–A checklist of things for parents to do between 4 and 5 years
–How is our 4 year old’s programme organised?
–What do we teach at BestStart Rolleston?
–Later on – dealing with homework
–What can parents do at home?
–Things to remember when working with your children
The parents gave us very positive feedback about the evening and said that they found it to be informative and a lot of the information they learned was new for them. At BestStart Rolleston, we always listen to the parents' feedback and suggestions because we know that working in a partnership with parents results in the best outcomes for the children.
