All our tamariki here at BestStart Kelvin St love experiencing sensory play. The infants with their curiosity about the world right up to the prep room and in between where the tamariki are working on further developing their fine motor skills and exploring their senses.

We provide a range of activities from water play, slime, sand, gloop and others that are limited only by our imaginations.

The tamariki are encouraged to explore sensory play both inside and outside.

Why do we provide sensory play?

Lots of tamariki get really excited and engaged when they get to explore sensory materials to determine if they’re warm or cool, wet or dry, rough or smooth. These experiences can help to lay the foundations for learning other skills, along with fine-tuning motor muscles.

Sensory play also helps to build nerve connections within the brains neural pathways which trigger inclination and ability in completing more complex learning tasks. Sensory play supports language development, cognitive growth, motor skills, problem solving skills, and social interaction. The list is endless. We love getting messy and exploring the world around us.
