In the prep room we're always encouraging the children to explore new and different activities and today we explored how the sun makes shadows.

Using some dinosaurs, we placed them on the edge of some paper and the children were then encouraged to draw around the shadow creating their dinosaur master piece. During this activity the children used their active exploration skills, thinking and reasoning as they had to draw around the shadow but at times their hands were blocking the shadow.

This experience also allowed the children to further develop their fine motor skills while holding the pencil and controlling it in the way they needed to ensure they could draw. As well as using their creative and expressive skills to finish of their master piece once they had their shadow drawn.
