Each day has a different theme to it and these school holidays we had a sports day.  We were lucky enough to have some special guests come in for a short time and share some of their hockey skills with us.  The boys are part of the under 15’s hockey representative team for Bay of Plenty.  There were some amazing ball skills going on and the children loved watching the bigger boys dribble the balls between cones and tackle each other for the ball.

Later in the day we set up a challenge for the children.  An egg and spoon race.  This challenged everyone, including the teachers, to balance the egg and race as quickly as possible.  Once the children seemed to have grasped the concept and the skill needed (they beat some teachers) we added in an obstacle course.  There was some intense focus happening to make it through without dropping the egg.  To release the tension built up from the egg obstacle course we learnt how to have a sack race!  There was so much fun being had as we explored so many different sports and the fun we can have with them.  We heard there were endless conversations around the dinner tables that night about hockey, netball, cricket, athletics and of course rugby.
