In the Koru Room at BestStart Montessori Mosgiel our tamariki (children) are enjoying helping their kaiako (teachers) to take care of the learning environment.  This is one of the aspects of the Montessori Curriculum that inspires our philosophy.  We encourage tamariki to take an active role in caring for our learning environment to help them build a strong connection and sense of belonging in the classroom.  Their contribution is valued and respected by kaiako and the tamariki get to feel a great sense of pride in our beautiful learning environment.  The experiences are also rich with learning opportunities, helping children to develop independence, their abilities to concentrate, engage, and refine their physical skills and working theories while having fun.  Some of our most sought after care of environment jobs include cleaning out the paints and washing the windows.
