Sometimes at BestStart Foxton Beach I have a moment that makes me feel so proud to do what I do. We have a vision here that we take very seriously, that we are growing and nurturing the kaitiaki of the future. For us this means we are growing and nurturing the future generation of people who will need to look after our country and ensure it is in good condition for years to come.

I noticed Malcolm and Tanner were very busy carting leaves around the playground so I went to see what they were doing. Tanner very confidently said "we are cleaning up the leaves because it is a mess". Malcolm agreed. I asked them what they wanted to do with the leaves and they said they needed to go in the rubbish. I got them a bag and they  began to load it up for me to tip in the compost area. They had attracted some other children. Tanner used his leadership skills and explained to them what they were doing and why.

Part of this months planning is around developing relationships and leadership. This is a great example of Tanner working on being a leader and role model for our younger children as well as Malcolm's ability to support his buddy as he explained to the others. I can see the other children are taking an interest in the world around them and developing ideas about our responsibility as kaitiaki.
