Here at BestStart Raumati, over the last few weeks the tamariki have been learning about Te Hautapu o Matariki, a food offering ceremony that signifies the rising of Matariki. The tamariki have been involved in some great learning about the stars including the food sources some of them represent - Waitī (freshwater food), Waitā (seafood), Tupuānuku (earth grown food), Tupuārangi (food grown on trees).

They organised with Kylee, our Cook, to make some of our yummy kai for last night’s Matariki celebration (the vegetable soup), the fish pasta, and delicious fruit salad. It was great to have so many of our whanau join us to enjoy our special kai together and get involved in our Matariki: te tau hou Māori activities over the evening – Bug hotels (Tupuānuku), star wishes and star candle holders (Hiwa i te rangi), drift wood and shell wind twirls (Ururangi), photo frames (Pōhutukawa), flax star badges (Matariki), bees wax wraps (Tupuārangi) and native seed planting (Tupuānuku). We also had photos in the photo booth
