BestStart Balclutha celebrated Matariki on the 28th of June 2019 with a whānau evening. We feasted on soup, fried bread and bread rolls which had been prepared during the week by tamariki and kaiako.
Our centre had been decorated through out the month of June as tamariki learnt about Matariki, the nine stars and what they represent. Tamariki made kites, decorated stars, listened to Matariki waiata and pukapuka and participated fully in the build up to our hakari/feast.
As whānau arrived they walked through the beautiful archway created out of natural fauna by our centre manager, Lisa with the support of our tamariki.
We also had an aspirations tree where whānau could write their wishes for ngā tamariki for 2019, there were some beautiful messages recorded.
