At Manuroa Titoki, we are committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We encourage and support an appreciation and awareness of the unique bicultural heritage of Aotearoa. Our planning programme incorporates the inclusion of te reo and tikanga Maori both inside and outside the classroom.

This year the Maori language week is from 14th September to 20th September. Our kaiako and tamariki decided to do something to celebrate it. Our preschool children did a range of creative art activities to acknowledge and celebrate the beautiful te reo. They made poi together. They created a natural garden on the table using clay and plants. They also dressed up in korowai! Our tamariki really enjoyed actively participating in these activities and practicing te reo in their daily conversations.

It is important to keep the language alive not just for Māori cultural reasons but also to maintain our unique national identity. These activities' build a sense of appreciation and awareness of te reo language. It provides tamariki with the opportunity to explore the values of equity and diversity, and learn one of our country's official languages.
