The day had finally arrived! It was 8.30am at BestStart Oraha Road and there was excitement in the air. The tamariki in the Adventurers and Investigators rooms were going on their first excursion!

After a quick morning tea and a parent helper briefing, it was time to board the bus. As the bus drove along the motorway to our destination, the excitement grew. The tamariki were watching all kinds of things out the window as we drove along. For some it was their first time on a bus. What a great first experience to be had with all their friends.

We pulled up to Whoa Studios and disembarked the bus. We headed to the studio and after a toilet stop we made our way inside. We were privileged enough to be able to sit in the front of the stage. Our tamariki waited patiently for the show to start. The lights went out and the show started. The opening was a song with some talented singers. The glow in the dark puppets were amazingly creative. The show told a story of the Matariki star sisters as they prepared for Te Tau Hou (the Māori New Year). It was focused around the journey of the smallest star, Waipuna-a-Rangi due to her getting lost playing hide and seek. Te Reo Māori was incorporated in the show which is amazing for our Maori tamariki to be able to witness the intergration of their culture and language in this show as well as be able to share it with their peers. It was also amazing for our other tamariki to be involved involved in such a rich culture - that is the Māori culture.

The show went for 40mins and was brilliant. We would highly recommend it.

After the show it was time to head back on the bus. Some of our tamariki were so exhausted they fell asleep. Others were still buzzing and couldn't stop talking about the show.

Our bus pulled into the driveway of our centre and we came to the realisation that our excursion was over. What a thrilling day!

Our first ever excursion went fantastic and we can't wait for the next one!
