At Topkids Pukuatua in the Te Tipu Room, we participated in the Chinese New Year celebration by decorating our room with joyful art work, dressing up in traditional clothing, exploring the Chinese Zodiac ( the 12 animals story), preparing and eating spring rolls and fried rice. All tamariki and kaiako enjoyed the yummy food and the taste of Chinese culture. We immersed ourselves in a very happy atmosphere. The Chinese cooking activity has been a great success with many tamariki and kaiako supporters. Thanks to everyone who helped me with the cooking. We engaged in meaningful dialogue as we talked about what we were seeing and doing, as well as learning Chinese language. The tamariki actively participated in their learning of eating health food and Chinese culture when the colour, taste, smell and touch drew their attention during the process of cooking.
