Tamariki, last Friday we had such a busy afternoon outside. First we had the chalks out and you all decided to start drawing on the whare and the fences. This transformed the whare into an amazing colourful whare. Some of you the came inside to get me and told me there was a surprise outside. I had to close my eyes while I was led to the whare. "Surprise!" you shouted. I was the told that it was coloured in because it was my birthday (which is wasn't) however some of you thought this was so funny and started to sing me happy birthday.

The weather was so beautiful and warm that I decided to extend your interest in colouring in the whare, to painting the whare with water and paint brushes. While I went and got the paint brushes I sent you all off on a mission to find something to put the water into. We met at the tap and we filled up your buckets with water and off you all went, busy painting the whare, fences and even the playground equipment. This kept some of you so engaged for over an hour.

Tamariki, this experience was amazing to be a part of. You all worked together to colour in the whare and worked so well in each other's spaces. We took turns at filling the buckets up and some of you even shared your buckets with each other. There was lots of laughter and enjoyment as we laughed about my pretend birthday.

This links to our current classroom interest of performing arts as you were showing different ways of being creative and expressive. Amazing work all!
