Transitioning to school at TopKids Dey
We provide different opportunities for our tamariki to support them with their transition to school journey.
We have built strong relationships with our local schools and we take our children and whanau for regular school visits prior to starting school.
Knighton Normal School has recently introduced a 10-week programme where children can attend the transition class up to 10 weeks before they start school. The centre has been invited to be part of this programme. Every fortnight we take our group of children to this programme and this has been very beneficial to both our tamariki and their whanau to support their school journey.
Just some learning happening for our tamariki and whanau:
• Building relationship with the school
• Getting familiar with the school environment and routines
• Extend on learning through play-based learning
• Building their confidence engaging in school curriculum.
• Tuakana teina (older siblings/children supporting the younger children)
