The Gecko room at BestStart Pyes Pa, have begun our exciting project transporting and transferring. We have researched and brainstormed experiences, this is on our planning wall, come and take a look! You will notice within our planned environment set ups that we are intentionally offering plenty of opportunities for our toddlers to engage in transporting and transferring.

We are planning through a schema approach as this supports toddlers natural development.

So what is a schema

Toddlers devise therories and use trial and error to produce answers. You may have noticed your toddlers natural behaviours such as banging, pushing, pulling: destruction testing is a key feature of this kind of activity. When your toddler engages in play they are asking themselves these kinds of questions, What does this thing do? What happens if I drop it? Will it break if I hit it? What if I hit it again? Your child wants the answers to all these questions and will persevere until they have them. As they try to make sense of the world, one action at a time.

We have decided to focus on transporting and transferring as we have observed this real desire amongst our toddlers and from conversations we have had with many of you recently! Transporting and Transferring is very rewarding for the young child since they gain a lot of pleasure from completing a task and seeing something happen as a result of their hard work.
