Here at BestStart Ngatai Rd culture is very important to us all. It defines who we are and what makes up our diverse centre.  At Ngatai Rd we have 17 different cultures that we love to acknowledge and celebrate – not only are our families culturally diverse but also our staff.  At Ngatai Rd our team of staff is made up of New Zealand Europeans, Maori, Australian, Korean and Indian cultures, which helps so much with settling new families from foreign countries.

For the past few years when it is Easter, we have a cultural evening, not only to celebrate Easter but also everyone’s different culture by having a dinner where people bring food from their culture to share with everyone.  We also have songs and dances performed from the different cultures.

As we were in lockdown during Easter this year, we decided to have a Cultural Day as part of our holiday programme.  We asked children to come dressed in their culture – what is most significant to them about their culture.  It was a great day to see what was significant to everyone and there was lots of learning and discussion around this.
