Wet 'n' Wild in Riverbend

During the hot summer days of January at BestStart Riverbend we enjoyed a 'Wet 'n' Wild' carnival where tamariki were able to explore the properties of water through a range of fun learning experiences.  Our centre resources were thoughtfully placed in or by the water to encourage exploration and additional resources added to our curriculum to stimulate interest.  Tamariki love to explore the texture and properties of water and babies learn cause and effect as they learn to splash water and notice how it feels on their body. Kaiako support this understanding by using words to describe how it feels and what it does.  We are mindful of teaching children to respect water as a valuable resource and we do this through conversation and kaitiaki practices such as collecting rainwater for play, recycling water where practical and at times having smaller amounts of water to play with.
