I demonstrated to the children how to climb up onto the plank and walk along it and jump off on the mat. I also explained about taking turns and sitting in our “waiting zone”. Children picked up the rules of this game very quickly. Soon they took turns and climbed and jumped over and over. To extend them on their game I decided to add some descriptive language and numeracy to their game. Climbing up, turn around, Stop, 1,2,3, Jump! Children happily listened and followed the instructions.

This learning experience enabled Children to extend their gross motor skills in a controlled safe environment. During this learning experience Children listened to the instructions and observed my demonstration and waited until it was their turn to jump, keeping their peers safe from harm.

Well done Tamariki. They really enjoyed this activity today. I could see that children were gaining more and more control over their body movements such as balance and co ordination.
