In March the tamariki at BestStart Mount Wellington have been very busy with their science experiments.

From making a volcano in the sandpit to a tornado in a bottle, the tamariki are fully engaged and their curiosity about the world around them is fulfilled. Throughout the last month, our young scientists have been practicing their inquiry skills through attentive observations, raising questions and looking for answers through trial and error.

The active use of inquiry skills not only brings them a variety of basic science concepts, but also enhances their development of other skills such as working with one another, fine and gross motor skills, language, early mathematical understanding, etc. It can have significant impact on their later learning.

Research finds that a four-year-old year asks an average of 437 questions per day. Our Kaiako with rich scientific knowledge and experience are always there to support the tamariki in their journey of exploration and discovery.

Tamariki have a much greater potential to learn than previously thought, we will continue to provide a rich and challenging environment for them.
