At ABC Kawaha Point children aged birth to five years bring with them their own unique kete of knowledge, skills, and dispositions that we nurture and grow in a warm, friendly, positive environment with qualified and caring teachers.

Our centre is well resourced with quality equipment. Teachers provide a variety of opportunities that introduce early concepts of numeracy and literacy through experiences that reflect the interests of each child. We have a strong belief in providing natural open ended resources to spark children’s imagination and creativity and promote the use of sustainable and recyclable materials.

Children are immersed in an environment that is full of aroha, rich in language and supportive of their cultural heritage. We encourage them to ask questions, to play imaginatively and to express themselves creatively. Te Reo Māori and the inclusion of Māori perspectives are an important part of our daily programme.

We aspire to capture and acknowledge the aspirations and needs of our whanau working in partnership and collaboration. We have a strong commitment to making connections with our community and ensure we instill the values of helping others into the lives of children enabling them to develop compassion towards the community and each other.

20 hours free childcare is offered for 3 to 5 year-olds every week, with both morning and afternoon sessions available. Tamariki enjoy helping prepare the nutritious morning and afternoon teas that we provide.

The professional support for teachers at ABC Kawaha Point is second to none. BestStart has the country’s most recognised Professional Guidance programme that supports teachers in acquiring new skills and knowledge, enabling us to be the best we can be so that in turn tamariki can achieve great learning outcomes.

ABC Kawaha Point has a wonderful warm feeling as you enter. The staff always greet you with a smile and a greeting. You can tell by looking at the children that they are happy and content. As a reliever I am treated like one of the family and never a reliever. This centre uses natural resources which I can see truly encourages the children to use their imagination.

Celebrating Matariki

Our centre was sponsored by Sky Supermarket each week with a boxful of winter vegetables. We would draw a whanau name each week and the lucky winner would receive this Matariki vege giveaway. Secondly our centre documented a local legend about Hatu Patu i
