BestStart Montessori Kapiti

BestStart Montessori Kāpiti provides a Montessori education for children from 0 to 6 years old in the beautiful township of Paraparaumu Beach. We are conveniently located on Kāpiti Road and open from 7.30am to 6.00pm, making us perfect for commuting families and those needing flexible care.

Learning spaces

At BestStart Montessori Kāpiti our goal is to activate the child’s natural desire to learn.  We provide this with lovely, calm learning environments where children are supported to learn the skills to successfully contribute to these environments.  In our classrooms you will see children developing and learning ways to purposefully contribute to our preschool community through being able to show compassion and respect to others and to their environments.  Our learning spaces are filled with interesting and attractive Montessori activities which support the development of independence.  Children learn the ability to take responsibility for their own learning, understanding how to take care of themselves, others and the environment.

Our early learning centre has three rooms – Nido for our babies, Bambini for toddlers and Casa for our 3 to 6 year olds. Children transition from one room to the next when they are socially and emotionally ready to grow providing your child with a true Montessori education experience throughout their early childhood years.

Working together for every child

We have an experienced Montessori trained teaching team providing authentic Montessori education for infants, toddlers, and young children. Teachers value family input and work in partnership with parents and whanau, following your child’s interests and developing individualised learning plans specific to your child strengths and your aspirations for their learning.

What children learn with us

  • They will engage in Montessori activities that support the development of their senses, natural curiosity, engaging their minds and developing control of their bodies.
  • Their natural desire to learn about literacy and numeracy is encouraged and supported and they discover the world by playing with our wonderful Montessori geography activities.
  • They will experiment with science, and explore the natural world of plants and animals and all the other amazing natural wonders which make up our world.
  • They will be supported to develop their understanding of ways which they can make purposeful contributions to their local community. This includes regular visits to our local Kāpiti Retirement Trust, and being part of the wider Montessori community through visits to Kāpiti Montessori primary school.  We are always developing and supporting new ways for our children to discover new places within our local community.

Music and Movement

We provide daily music and movement sessions with each of our classrooms which suit the needs of each age group.  As an extension to this our Bambini and Casa classrooms have weekly half hour sessions at our local dance studio Dapa.

Healthy eating and physical activity

We know that for children to grow and develop into confident learners it is important that they regularly eat healthy and nutritious food.  Therefore, we provide a variety of delicious nutritious vegetarian meals throughout the day which include morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, and a late snack.  Special dietary requirements are also catered for.  We also provide regular daily physical activity in our outdoor environment and the children engage in helping to maintain our vegetable gardens where they grow and harvest their own food.

We offer 4 hour sessions, all day care with a short day of 7 hours,  all day care with a full day of 8 hours or more. We are open from 7.30am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday.

We welcome you to come and visit us to see all our centre has to offer you and your child.

Rosie and Oscar's day

kind words from our parents

Our daughter has gained confidence. She is always singing new songs at home and is very happy at Montessori.

Our daughter is now very confident and likes learning new things. She sings a lot and talks about all the new things she does.

We are very happy with Montessori Kapiti. Our son loves to be here and is always keen to be at Montessori.

Thank you so much for all the wonderful care you have given to Oscar and Rosie. You will be all missed.

Our children

I like playing with my friends. I like playing games with the old people! I like playing with the puzzle maps and the globe. I like swinging and spinning on the big black swing!

Since Malaki started at BestStart Montessori Kapiti, we have seen him learn and develop so quickly and we really couldn’t be more happy with how well he has settled into the environment. I’m amazed every day at the new skills he’s developing and his talking and self help skills are developing as well. Malaki runs into the Centre in the mornings and he’s happy and settled and that means everything to us. That shows to us that he loves being there. And when we pick him up in the afternoons he’s happy and we can see that he’s had a great day. The Educators are friendly and helpful when they greet us as we enter in the mornings. We have a happy little boy and are so grateful to BestStart Montessori Kapiti for making the transition to childcare so easy for all of us but in particular Malaki.
